Artemis Employees Volunteer at D.C. Soup Kitchen

14 August 2017

Artemis employees volunteered their time at the Brethren Nutrition Program’s Soup Kitchen in Washington D.C. this month. They participated in two groups during the day to help prepare, cook, serve and clean-up meals.  Giving back to the community is an important part of Artemis’ culture, and a way in which our employees can support a common value together.

The Soup Kitchen’s mission is to serve neighborhoods on Capitol Hill by providing healthy and wholesome lunches to those in need.  They have an open-door policy without any eligibility requirements, basically welcoming everyone to join in the meals.  They primarily serve the unemployed and homeless, as well as those who reside in shelters while they search for permanent affordable housing.  This meal is often a way for the guests to stretch their significantly limited incomes.  Our employees witnessed a strong sense of community as the guests shared stories about their week and entertained one another with singing and dancing.
